Studying Uechi-Ryu is intended to make karate students physically and psychologically fit and well-coordinated and prepare them to master the art of the defensive weapon. The karate practitioner must always be on their best behaviour, maintaining a modest demeanour toward others, emphasising politeness, dressing neatly, watching their words and actions, and studying hard. Even when under the influence of illegal substances, the karate practitioner must refrain from being a nuisance to others by using foul language and acting violently toward them.
The karate practitioner must avoid acting and speaking in a tasteless and disgusting manner that would bring even a small amount of dishonor to their own school (Uechi-Ryu) and themselves. A karate practitioner shouldn't be self-centered or gravitate toward a life of leisure. The karate learner must make an ongoing effort to keep working hard so that the mind is constantly filled with the vigor of life.
